Welcome! I’ve been growing and tending to orchids since I was 7 years old. I grew up in South Broward County (Lake Forest) in the 1960’s and 1970’s. My parents lived on a lake and my father possessed an awesome orchid collection. He had collected them for over 30 years. They numbered in the 100’s, possibly a thousand or more. One of my first jobs was to search the orchids for disease and pests. Each one I found I was paid a nickel. Growing up in south Florida I marveled at the beauty and simplicity of orchid growing. Progress 40 years now and I’m still intrigued with the beauty of orchids. They are a resilient group of plants, which number over 20,000 strong. Orchids are the largest group of plants on the planet Earth! My passion for orchids has become more than just a hobby. For the past four years living on Davis Islands I’ve been providing my friends and strangers alike, free advice and recommendations on orchid management and maintenance. There is great joy is seeing an orchid bloom for the first time, but even greater joy getting it to bloom again, and again. Orchids aren’t hard to raise - they are just DIFFERENT. As you will discover in this site, they don’t grow in soil, but rather love the open air or bark as their place of residency. Water is their friend and also their greatest enemy.
